Moms Need To Feel Successful Too! (cont'd)
sibling.
Then I decided I would work from home and make enough money on the side to be able to buy my kids everything they wanted. Then I would be happy right!? If I had enough money to buy things I would definitely feel successful. I signed up to be a distributor for a clothing company my girlfriend worked for. I made enough money on the side to cover some extras in our life. I love selling shirts and meeting new people. It’s so much fun to represent such a great product. But it still didn’t make the difference I was hoping for.
One day a few months back, I was sitting talking to my sister about my “itch.” My little sister has a cosmetologist degree, she worked at a hip Las Vegas salon, she has traveled ALL over the world, she built houses for families in Cambodia, she’s been on the Price is Right, and she is now in South America for two years serving our church. I look at her life and just dream of what it would be like to have her experiences. So we were sitting talking one day and I was telling her how jealous I was of her life. I was sitting with my baby cooing happily on my lap while chewing on a toy and my two year old was playing in the snow in our back yard. My husband was in the garage working on his latest car project. She looked around and said- “I would trade ALL my “glamorous” adventures and trips to be in your shoes. Happily married with two sweet little kids.” And it hit me. What more was I looking for? Everything I ever wanted was right in front of me. Sure here in Utah, moms are a dime a dozen so there’s nothing rare or exciting about being a mom, but what could be better. And what can give you more of a high than a beaming toothless smile from your baby, or a toddler giving you a kiss and telling you he loves mommy.
Being a mom is definitely the best thing I could ever be successful at. Sure- I still dream from time to time of starting up a new home business that will sky rocket to a million dollar company- but then I hear a call from the next room and come back to reality and realize that the smiles of my well adjusted kids is all the success I could ever want!
I’ve come up with some ways I help keep myself feeling successful at being a mom.
I’ll teach my 2 year old a new song or a new letter of the alphabet and then BEAM at what a brilliant child I have raised.
I work with my 7 month old at sitting up and SMILE about what a big boy he is.
I go to a local play place or park and watch other moms struggle with kids throwing tantrums and I’m GLAD I’m not the only mom in the world with kids who act up.
I come onto Utah Mommies and read about how other mom’s kids are having a hard time getting their babies to sleep through the night and I LAUGH about how many moms are going through the same struggles I am.
I just sit back and look at my happy kids and I’m PROUD of how SUCCESSFUL I am at teaching my kids to be happy fun little guys!
I may not be the Worlds Best Mom but I am successful nonetheless!
